AYAME TENCHU ARTWORK & A MIGRAINE

I forgot I finished this digital art titled 'Ayame Flowers' a few weeks back around Chinese New Year festivities. It took a while. I drew Ayame because of my Tenchu-clan revival on DeviantArt and saw a Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven playthrough on Youtube. Oh and sad to say I am no longer 'Grandmaster' level... the last time I played to test the xbox, my score level was something like 'Novice' since I forgot all the controls and where the enemies were lol.... didn't finish Tenchu Z either because Rikimaru & Ayame were either absent or not playable.

Back to this art: after experimenting with the background & that glare effect, I went to bed. The next morning I had an occular migraine lol. Not sure if it was the red or the glare that did it, or the MSG in my junk food, or that the afternoon was too bright, or didn't get enough sleep, but I offed the background colour while working on her clothes after that, just in case.

Anyhow the migraine was unusual since I've usually had classic migraines, the kind with the blurred aura vision. This one came with flashes of colour on my left sight, like pixel graininess flashing. They remind me of an lcd screen breaking down or an incompatible graphics card. I recall it was mostly red and green. And with eyes closed the flashes were still there so it wasn't astigmatism. Then the migraine lasted about 5 hours which doesn't sound as bad as my usual 10-12 hour ones. But it was made worse that day because it was Chinese New Year and gah... the lion dances and clashing of cymbals & drums went on for the ENTIRE day downstairs, a few troupes were performing consecutively even. Competing who made the loudest noise perhaps? sheesh. I almost died of sound. Normally it's annoying on a healthy day if you ever hear those you know what I mean, but when you get a migraine the din is magnified ten times and each clash equals to a throb in the brain blood vessel. So sorry for being a whiny wet blanket, they may chase away bad luck and blah, but go away please. Talk about aggravation. My bf said: Sorry but you picked a wrong time to fall sick! Indeed.

So hope you like this Ayame pic dedicated to Tenchu fans (after bearing with my complaining). This post was meant to be just a paragraph long but guess I remembered some stuff now. A nice thing I do have to say is that the background is from a photo I took at Huntington Gardens. Their Japanese garden is quite pretty and I wanted Ayame to show her more serene side! The next time she's drawn, she will be back with blades.

THIS IS SAND

In need of some creative stimulants? Check this site out: http://thisissand.com/

It is a play site where you move your mouse over a blank 'canvas' and the pixels will turn into simulated sand. Very cool and a great way to relax. You can pick the colours too. Just click on that little grey square on the top left for instructions. My piece featured above doesn't mean anything, I just wanted to play with the colours!

A HORROR FLASH GAME

Enjoy, I saved this post for a time closer to halloween! If you're in a mood for short horror flash games, check out Exmortis 1 & Exmortis 2. They are abandoned houses photos incorporated into a mostly point-click sequence game. Just click on my links and go to 'Play this Game' on the pages. If you ever get stuck, there's a walkthrough around as well, just google it!

For a longer halloween game, maybe you can try 'Phantasmagoria' which was released in 1995, I loved it as a kid. You do alot of exploring and watch alot of movieclips within the game as well, but the graphics will seem much low-tech and low-res compared to present day graphics. I recalled it came in a 7-CDrom set back then.

ABANDONED RUINS FLASH GAMES

Heard of time wasters? I mean flash games, it's so easy to get distracted with all these wonderful (and free) games packed with enough entertainment to make me miss a few days of work!

Anyhow I have an interest in looking at abandoned places and ruins. Decayed buildings have a sense of texture, forlorn atmosphere, objectification (is this even a word?), creepiness, nature and surrealism all rolled into one. Yum. I've got a couple of blogs and sites bookmarked just for reference and to oogle at, maybe I'll share them another day. Most of the time I'm content with just looking at photographs, you'll never know a place in ruins might have roofs crashing on your head or you have to dodge security people, snakes and such... Here I'd like to share with you 3 of the abandoned places flash art which stand out in my mind, yes I classify them as art because they are so well made. They aren't exactly games but interactive scenes.

99 Rooms
This is a interactive flash sequence made with photos of abandoned warehouses in East Berlin, animated with some grafitti-like horror sequences. To progress each room, you will need to click or fulfill an action. Needless to say there are 99 rooms so this may be an entertaining way to kill some time. It's one of the first flash games I've ever played back in 2005, and I'm glad the site's still up.

The Hospital
The hospital is more of an artistic approach of various scenes taken of an abandoned hospital, spliced and added with animation and surrealism. This game has no end, and you navigate by clicking on areas of the map and exiting by clicking 'back' to the menu. For a bonus you can find hotspots and a little camera icon will appear on the top right where they show the original photos compared to the screen version. Nothing scary about this game so relax!

NFH Propaganda
This one is a slick, horror interactive animation of an abandoned car factory of sorts. I really like how creepy it is. When you have successfully performed a series of actions by finding the hotspots, a right arrow will appear below the screen so you can proceed to the next area. Nevertheless there's a map included so you can move on easily if you're stuck. The scenes are loaded separately so it may take some time to complete this game. This one has shock & gore so enter with caution.
